When Joanna met me, I had been doing CrossFit for over 3 years. So, it was inevitable that she would be a CrossFitter too. About 1 month after we first met, she did her Fundamentals and started doing the workouts at CrossFit Moncton.
Fast forward to December 24th, 2010 – that’s when I took to my knee to ask her to be my wife.
We both love CrossFit and it is a big part of our lives. The majority of our friends are CrossFitters, so our wedding list was made up of people from the gym and family members.
We wanted our wedding to be different, so we added a little CrossFit flavor to it.
Joanna’s mother, maid of honor and bridesmaid are all CrossFitters. They were a huge help with Joanna during her special day.
I was lucky to have the help of my brother and fellow CrossFit trainer Marc.
The boys and I spent a chunk of the afternoon setting up rocks to make an aisle for the bride to walk down. We were a sweaty mess before the ceremony.
Anyway, we got married and all that good stuff. Joanna used a 12″ box jump so I could kiss the bride at eye level. We also got some pretty sweet wedding pictures done at the gym.
After the session at the gym, and a quick supper, it was time for the reception. That’s where the real fun happened! We had a CrossFit friend, David, be our Master of Ceremonies.
Good choice. We also had some lovely CrossFit decor and a kettlebell cake.
Our dance floor was encompassed by some bumper plates and bars, wrapped in white lace.
Each table had an exercise posted on it. Instead of tapping their glasses, guests had to perform their exercise to get the bride and groom to kiss.
Our mother’s sat at the burpee table!
And instead of a first dance, Joanna and I did a first workout. I’m still amazed that she was able to do all of that in a wedding dress!
The wedding was perfect. The reception was a night to remember. And I couldn’t be happier knowing I get to spend the rest of my life with my strong, beautiful wife.
